United States President Donald Trump hosted a lavish state banquet for Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House, an event attended by elite figures from the American technology sector, including Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk, Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook, Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang, and OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman. The prominent presence of tech titans underscored the heavy emphasis on trade and artificial intelligence during the Chinese leader's visit to Washington.
The high-profile gathering unfolded against a backdrop of public dissent, as demonstrators assembled outside the White House gates to voice opposition. According to journalists from Agence France-Presse stationed at the scene, protesters chanted slogans such as "Xi Jinping, you are not welcome" and "Free Hong Kong" while President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed President Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, to the executive mansion.
Earlier in the day, President Trump reported substantial headway in his formal discussions with the Chinese leader. The evening's festivities included a military parade, aerial maneuvers by fighter jets, and a tour of a newly constructed helipad on the White House grounds. As a gesture of goodwill, President Trump presented his guest with a special sculpture crafted in the likeness of the American bald eagle, the nation's traditional symbol.
Culinary offerings for the evening featured yellow squash veloute, a specialized seafood course, sea bass coated in vanilla sesame, and a dessert composed of vanilla cream and ice cream made from White House honey. Following the dinner, the 80-year-old US President invited attendees to tour the construction site of a newly built 400 million dollar ballroom, noting that they would be the very first individuals to step foot inside the facility.
President Trump also escorted his counterpart to inspect the newly built helipad and subsequently invited him aboard the presidential Marine One helicopter.
