Bangladesh routs New Zealand in T20 series opener

Bangladesh bowler Nahid Rana tore through the New Zealand lineup on Tuesday, taking five wickets to skittle the visitors for 198 runs in their One Day International clash.
The early pressure was applied by the Bangladesh bowlers, with Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed delivering maiden overs in the second and third overs respectively. New Zealand’s opening pair, Henry Nicholls and Nick Kelly, struggled to score, managing only 4 runs in the first 28 balls.
As New Zealand began to find their footing, Rana entered the attack and immediately made an impact, trapping Nicholls lbw with his first delivery. He continued his devastating spell, dismissing Will Young with the first ball of his next over. Rana later removed Mohammad Abbas and completed his five-wicket haul by bowling Jedson Lennox.
Amidst the collapse, opener Nick Kelly fought a lone battle, scoring 83 runs from 102 deliveries, his maiden half-century in his fifth ODI career match. However, he was eventually caught at mid-wicket by Hridoy off the bowling of Shoriful, leaving New Zealand reeling at 145 for five.
Rishad Hossain chipped in with the wicket of Josh Clarkson, caught by Miraz at backward point. Rana then claimed his fourth wicket by having Cole Freer caught by Miraz at square leg. Taskin dismissed Ben Tickner, who offered a simple catch to substitute fielder Afif at mid-wicket.
This marks Rana’s second five-wicket haul in ODIs, having previously taken 5 for 24 against Pakistan at the same venue in Mirpur on March 11.
