Alcaraz withdrew from the French Open

Two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from this year’s French Open due to a wrist injury. He also said that he will not participate in the Italian Open (Rome Masters).

In a message on social media on Friday, Alcaraz said that this decision was taken in the interest of caution. So he won’t play in both the tournaments – Rome and Roland Garros. He also said that although times have been tough for him, he is hopeful of coming back stronger.

He suffered the injury while playing in the first round of the Barcelona Open last week. After winning that match, he withdrew from the tournament. Earlier, on April 17, he withdrew his name from the Madrid Open.

Notably, Alcaraz became the youngest player to complete the career Grand Slam by winning the Australian Open earlier this year. His performance this season was also excellent—22 wins, 3 losses and a title at the Qatar Open.

Alcaraz, currently ranked number two in the world, lost the top spot to Yannick Ciner in the final of the last Monte-Carlo Masters.

He won the Roland Garros twice in a row in 2024 and 2025 by showing his dominance on the clay court. However, due to injuries, it was not possible to maintain that consistency this time.
