UN agency warns of humanitarian disaster in Lebanon

The United Nations has issued a warning of extreme humanitarian crisis in Lebanon. According to the World Food Program (WFP), at least one million people have been displaced across the country due to the recent conflict. 

Hundreds of casualties have been reported in the past 48 hours, creating a devastating humanitarian situation in the country.

According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health, at least 303 people were killed and 1,150 injured in Israeli attacks in various parts of the country on Wednesday (April 8). A preliminary figure released on Thursday (April 9) revealed this grim picture. WFP’s Lebanon Country Director, Alison Oman Lawi, said they have been active on the ground since the beginning, providing food and cash assistance to millions of people.

However, Omani has expressed deep concern about the continuation of relief operations in the current situation. He made it clear that UN agencies need safe and uninterrupted transit facilities for this life-saving aid to arrive. 

According to him, if security is not ensured and remote and affected areas cannot be reached, it will be impossible to deliver the necessary aid to the common people. Insecurity and travel restrictions are now the main obstacles to humanitarian aid.
