Two women lost their only son in an accident. One of these two women is Nasima Akhter (36) and the other is her mother-in-law Fatema Khatun (75). Nasima lost her husband Noor Alam and only son Noor Hasan Nirav in a road accident on Tuesday. Similarly Noor Alam was also the only son of Fatema Khatun. Both women are maddened by the loss of their only child.
Yesterday morning, while taking a U-turn on Nur Alam’s motorcycle highway, there was a collision with Chittagong-bound ‘Daudkandi Express’ bus. Noor Alam, his son and nephew who were on the motorcycle were seriously injured. Noor Alam was declared brought dead after being taken to Feni General Hospital. Later, Noor Hasnat Nirav, son of Noor Alam, died on the way to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in Baryarhat area. Nur Alam’s nephew Afzal Hossain Mithu was seriously injured. Noor Alam was an ambulance driver at Feni Diabetic Hospital.
‘O Hut Re, Hut Tui Kai Geli, Anr Kalija Konai Re, come back to the chest, without you, Ai Kenne Bachum.’ Nasima Akhtar was crying like this, lamenting the loss of her son and husband. On Wednesday morning, such a heartbreaking situation was seen in the house of Shahi Ulyah of Rajapur village of Mangalkandi union of Sonagazi upazila of Feni.
Not only Nasima, her mother-in-law also lost her only son. Noor Alam’s mother Fatema Khatun is dying due to age. He lost his only son and grandson at the age of 75 and is speechless. Fatema lost her husband i.e. Noor Alam’s father 10 years ago due to tuberculosis. This time his son and grandson died together. Along with that, the house somehow became desolate.
Nur Alam’s daughter Tahmina Sultana said, “I ate rice together with my father on Monday afternoon. As my father was on night shift duty, I packed my father’s food in a box at night. That was the last time I saw my father. On Tuesday morning my brother Noor Hasnat Nirav and cousin Afzal Hossain went to father’s hospital together. From there, the three of them took their father’s bike and went to Lemua to invite their father-in-law to an accident. An accident has left the whole family in disarray.’
Tahmina also said, ‘I have only one brother. Local Speaker Moazzem Hossain participated in the silent SSC examination from High School but failed to pass. The mother hoped that if the son was sent abroad, he would take charge of the family. But due to his young age, he could not get his driving license. Father and brother left us together.’
Ambulance driver Noor Alam, who was killed in a road accident on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway, has delivered many patients to the hospital during his career. Many bodies were also carried. But last night it was the same ambulance that brought his own frozen body home. The body of only son Noor Hasnat Nirav was also there.

Yesterday evening, Noor Alam’s colleagues came home with his body in their own ambulance. The crowded village awoke to the sound of two dozen ambulance sirens. After two rounds of Janaza, the father and son were laid to rest in two graves side by side in the family graveyard of Shahi Ullah village of Rajapur village. The whole village is saddened by such an incident. Before this, the first funeral was held in Mizan Maidan area of Bad Asr Feni city. Later, the people of the surrounding areas participated in the second funeral at the village house.
Zainal Abedin Bablu, cousin of deceased Nur Alam and convenor of Sonagazi Upazila BNP, said that Nur Alam used to mingle with everyone in the area. He was the only son of his parents. The family has become virtually maleless due to the death of father and son in an accident.
Apart from the father and son being killed in the accident, Afzal Hossain Mithu (31), a resident brother of Noor Alam, was also injured. The seriously injured Afzal is undergoing treatment in ICU at CRB hospital in Chittagong. He got serious injuries on his head, legs and waist. As his condition worsened, he will be transferred to Dhaka Trauma Hospital from Chittagong this afternoon by ICU ambulance.
Afzal’s mother Jahanara Begum said, ‘My elder son Afzal lives in Europe. He worked as a laborer in that country for six to seven years. Every year he comes to the country for 20-25 days vacation. This time he came to the country on May 6 on a 22-day vacation. Afzal was going to take uncle and cousin home. Such an accident happened on the way.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Feni Model Police Station Gazi Muhammad Fauzul Azim said that the wife of the deceased Noor Alam filed a case under the Road Accident Act as a plaintiff. Police are conducting further legal proceedings.
