Two students of BRAC University died after taking a bath in a pond in Munshiganj city. The incident took place in West Deobogh area of ​​the city on Friday afternoon.

The two people who died are the sons of the late Mostakur Rahman of West Deobogh area. Labib Wahid (21) and the army officer of Mirpur area of ​​the capital. Ripon’s son. Azwad Tausif (21). Both were second year students of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department of BRAC University.

According to local and eyewitness sources, 13 to 14 students of BRAC University came to visit Labib’s grandfather’s house this afternoon. They have lunch there. Around 4:30 in the afternoon Labib Wahid, Azwad and six people went down to bathe in the pond. At one point in the bath, Labib and Azwad drowned. Later locals and other students rescued the two after 20-25 minutes and took them unconscious to Munshiganj General Hospital. The doctor on duty there declared them dead.

Munshiganj General Hospital’s emergency department doctor Mohammad Yusuf Ali Sarkar told Prothom Alo, ‘Those two students were brought to our hospital around 5:30 in the afternoon. After various tests, the two students died before they were brought to the hospital.

The doctor also said, ‘I have learned that the cause of death is drowning. However, after reporting the matter to the police station, the police kept the body in the hospital for post-mortem.

After the body was brought to the hospital, other students who were with them gathered. At that time, Arefin, a classmate of the students who died, said, ‘We were sitting after the meal. Ajwad, Labira was bathing in the water. At that time, other friends were saying that Labib was not available. We watched from afar, Labib floating and sinking. We dived into the water and rescued Labib in an unconscious state. Then I saw that Azwad was not with us. After searching the pond, I found Jawad drowned.

An eyewitness said on condition of anonymity, “14 people from Dhaka and 6 more friends from Munshiganj came to Deobogh area on the invitation of a friend. Labib knew how to swim. Azwad did not know. But we could not even think that our friends will die by drowning in the pond.

Officer-in-charge of Munshiganj Sadar police station. Mominul Islam told Prothom Alo around 9:15 pm, ‘The bodies of those two students are currently at Munshiganj General Hospital. We want to do an autopsy on them. Initially, it is believed that the students died due to drowning. But the actual incident will be understood after the autopsy.
