Two died in Jhenaidah due to lightning, 4 cows died in Meherpur

Two people died due to lightning in Mayadharpur village of Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila. Four more people were injured in different parts of the district due to lightning. Apart from this, four cows in the field died due to lightning in Gangni upazila of Meherpur. Two were injured. These incidents took place between Monday afternoon and evening.
The persons who died due to lightning in Jhenaidah are paddy worker Asadul Islam (45) and housewife Anna Khatun (48). Asadul Islam is a resident of Kushtia. He came to Mayadharpur village of Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila to harvest paddy. Anna Khatun is a resident of Damukdia village in Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah. He was killed by lightning while picking mangoes during a storm. On Monday around six in the evening, rain with thunder started in different parts of the district. At this time they died.
Residents of Mayadharpur village said that around five in the afternoon, sudden rain and lightning started. At that time the farmers were harvesting paddy in the field. At that time, two workers were injured by lightning. The local people rescued them and took them to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital where the doctor declared Asadul Islam dead. Another injured worker received first aid.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station. Asaduzzaman said that an agricultural worker named Asadul Islam was killed in the lightning strike. Another person was injured at this time. Apart from this, three more women were injured by lightning in Dhopaghata Gobindpur, Dogachi village of Sadar upazila.
Fariha Tahsin, a doctor in the emergency department of Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital, said that one person died before reaching the hospital. Four more people injured by lightning are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Shailkupa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir Molla said that a woman of Shailkupa died due to lightning while picking mangoes in the rain around 6 pm.
Two people were injured by lightning in Gangni upazila of Meherpur. A farmer’s four cows were killed by lightning. This incident happened around five o’clock in the afternoon on Monday. The injured persons are Rabiul Islam (70), a farmer of Dobapara area of Kasba village of Gangni upazila and Khadija Khatun (13), daughter of Enamul Haque of Bharat Durlavpur village.
According to local sources, Rabiul Islam was grazing cows in Chamdukhali field of Kasba village in the afternoon. At that time, he was seriously injured in a sudden storm and lightning. Four of his cows died on the spot. On the other hand, Khadija Khatun was injured by lightning while staying at home. Later local people rescued them and admitted them to Gangni Upazila Health Complex.
Gangni Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer Tasmeri Khatun told Prothom Alo that the two injured are being treated in the hospital. But they are safe now.
According to police and local administration sources, local public representatives and policemen visited the scene immediately after the incident. Government assistance to the affected farmer families is being considered.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station Uttam Kumar Das said, “We have received information that two people were injured in Kasba and Bharat Durlavpur villages in the incident of lightning.” Apart from this, the death of four cows has been confirmed. I request everyone to stay in safe shelter during storms.
