Two arrested in Dhaka for producing and selling pornographic content on social media

The Cyber and Special Crime (South) division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a 25-year-old woman and her male associate, 30-year-old Khaja Saklain Faruk, on charges of producing, distributing, and selling pornographic content via social media platforms.
The arrests follow a cyber-monitoring operation initiated on August 10, during which detectives identified objectionable content and advertisements for paid access to explicit photos and videos on the woman’s Instagram and Telegram accounts. According to investigators, the suspects solicited payments through mobile financial services to grant access to the material.
Following a digital investigation to pinpoint their location, police conducted a raid on a flat in the Bashundhara residential area of Dhaka on the night of August 11, where they arrested the female suspect. Authorities seized an iPhone 17 Pro Max and a OnePlus smartphone during the operation. Acting on information provided by the woman during interrogation, officers subsequently apprehended Khaja Saklain Faruk in the Link Road area of Badda.
A case has been filed against the suspects at the Ramna Model Police Station under the Pornography Control Act, 2012. Police have also named the woman’s father as an accused in the case, alleging that he was aware of his daughter’s activities and consented to the earnings generated from the illicit operations.
A local court has granted a one-day remand for the female suspect to facilitate further questioning. Detective Branch officials stated that they have uncovered evidence involving additional individuals and are currently working to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.
