Factional Tensions Split Faridpur Swechchasebak Dal Anniversary Programs

FARIDPUR — Factional divisions within the Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal in Faridpur were on public display Wednesday, as the organization held separate rallies and processions to mark its founding anniversary.
Supporters of two prominent political figures—State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid and Faridpur-3 Member of Parliament Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf—organized distinct programs throughout the day, highlighting a rift within the local unit of the party.
District Swechchasebak Dal Convener Mozammel Hossain stated that he had proposed a unified event to the organization’s district member secretary, Shahriar Hossain. According to Hossain, the proposal was rejected because the opposing faction insisted on exclusively hosting Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf. A secondary proposal to invite both the State Minister and the local MP as guests was also declined, as the factions could not reach a consensus on the inclusion of the Faridpur-3 lawmaker.
Shahriar Hossain confirmed that the failure to reach a unified program stemmed from disagreements over the list of guests. He noted that his faction intended to focus the event around the member of parliament for the district headquarters, a condition the rival group was unwilling to accept.
The faction supporting Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf initiated their activities around noon. Led by Shahriar Hossain, participants gathered on Brahma Samaj Road and conducted a procession that passed the Faridpur General Hospital and the Faridpur Press Club before concluding at the Janata Bank intersection. Their banners prominently featured images of party leadership alongside Chowdhury Nayab Yusuf, his father Chowdhury Kamal Ibne Yusuf, and Faridpur-4 MP Shahidul Islam. The rally was addressed by district BNP member secretary AKM Kibria.
In a separate display, supporters of Shama Obaid organized their procession in the late afternoon. Led by District Convener Mozammel Hossain, the group marched from the Medical Assistant School, proceeding through Mujib Road past the district jail and the municipal office before ending at the Janata Bank intersection. This faction’s display featured large portraits of party leaders alongside an image of Shama Obaid. That rally was addressed by district BNP convener Syed Modarresh Ali.
