Two Arrested After Targeted Brick Attack on Motorcyclist in Dhaka

Police in Dhaka have arrested two men in connection with a violent assault in the capital’s East Shewrapara neighborhood, where a motorcyclist was deliberately struck with a brick, causing him to crash and sustain serious injuries. The suspects, identified as 30-year-old Parvez and 32-year-old Anwar Hossain Babu, were apprehended during coordinated operations across Dhaka and Mymensingh.

The incident occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. last Tuesday, when the victim, a young man identified as Rafi, was returning home by motorcycle. According to law enforcement officials, the assailants attempted to intercept him near the Haji Ashraf Ali High School. When the victim failed to stop, Parvez allegedly threw a brick at him, striking him in the head and causing him to lose control of his vehicle.

Following the crash, the attackers themselves transported the injured man from the scene in an auto-rickshaw. The assault was captured by local CCTV cameras, and the footage quickly went viral on social media, prompting the victim’s uncle, Nur Hossain, to file a case of attempted murder at the Kafrul Police Station.

During a press conference at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media center on Friday, Deputy Commissioner Md. Mostak Sarker confirmed that investigators have identified four individuals involved in the attack, including the two suspects in custody and two others identified as Faisal, alias Kalu, and Amin. Authorities have since recovered the victim’s motorcycle, which had been left at the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest the attack was a premeditated act stemming from long-standing hostility. Police stated that the suspects were involved in local narcotics trafficking, a criminal activity that had brought them into conflict with the victim. Authorities further noted that both Parvez and Faisal face multiple prior charges under the Narcotics Control Act across various police stations in the capital.
