Truck Driver Dies from Injuries After Braving Attack by Armed Robbers on Highway

A long-haul trailer driver was killed in a violent robbery attempt early Tuesday while transporting goods from Sylhet to the Chittagong port. The driver, 50-year-old Md. Jamal Uddin, succumbed to severe blood loss after being struck by an armed gang in Brahmanbaria, according to reports provided to local authorities.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. when the vehicle was forced to slow down while crossing the narrow Titas Bridge. A group of five to six attackers approached the trailer and demanded the driver stop. When Uddin refused, the assailants shattered the front passenger window and struck him in the neck with a sharp weapon.

Despite sustaining a deep, life-threatening wound, Uddin maintained control of the vehicle for a significant distance to escape the attackers. As he began to lose consciousness from the resulting hemorrhaging, he handed over the steering wheel to his assistant, 28-year-old Md. Bellal, urging him to continue toward Chittagong without stopping. Uddin died shortly thereafter before the trailer could reach the Mohipal area in Feni.
Bellal continued the journey and eventually contacted other drivers from their firm, leading them to the Fardin Model Pump area in the Jorarganj police station jurisdiction of Mirsarai. Police arrived at the scene around 8:00 a.m. to recover the body.

Officer-in-Charge of Jorarganj Police Station, Md. Abdul Halim, confirmed that a preliminary examination of the body revealed a deep laceration on the right side of the neck, consistent with a targeted assault. The body has been sent to the Chittagong Medical College morgue for an autopsy. Because the initial assault took place in Brahmanbaria, authorities in Jorarganj have notified the relevant district police to initiate the formal investigation and legal proceedings.
Uddin was a resident of North Char Aicha village in the Char Fasson sub-district of Bhola.
