Tika investigation sought amid caretaker government concerns
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Information and Broadcasting Advisor, Zahid Uz Zaman, stated Tuesday that efforts are underway to investigate allegations of negligence against the former interim government regarding the measles vaccine.
Speaking to reporters at a regular press conference at the Secretariat, Zaman said the investigation’s purpose is to ascertain the facts and reach a conclusion. He expressed an intention to expedite the inquiry and indicated he would discuss the matter with the Prime Minister if necessary.
Zaman elaborated on the investigation, stating, “I am personally trying to work on an official investigation, talking to the Ministry of Health. I hope the government will conduct an investigation. More important than holding someone accountable or punishing them is understanding where the problems occurred.”
He emphasized the importance of such an inquiry for future prevention, adding, “An investigation helps in the future, so that similar incidents do not recur. For that reason, I personally believe there should be an investigation, and I am trying for it. I will talk about this. If necessary, I will also talk to the Prime Minister.” He reiterated that efforts will be made to ensure the investigation begins promptly.
