Three persons sentenced to death for gang rape of school girl in Jamalpur

The court sentenced three people to death for the gang rape of a class 9 student in Jamalpur’s Islampur upazila. At the same time each has been fined two lakh taka. Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of Jamalpur Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal-1 announced the verdict on Thursday afternoon.
The accused who received death sentence are Shipon (21), Ibrahim (27) and Yusuf Ali (22). They are residents of Shildah village of Belgacha union of upazila. They were all present in the court when the verdict was announced.
According to the summary of the case and the court sources, the girl developed a love relationship with a local youth. On the night of April 19, 2024, the young man called the student to a fallow field. He raped the student there. At that time there were Shipon, Ibrahim and Yusuf. When they went ahead, the young man ran away from there. At that time, the three gang raped the student.
16 days after the incident, on May 5, 2024, the girl’s father filed a complaint at the Islampur police station. In this, those four people were accused. After the hearing, the court sentenced the three to death today.
Fazlul Haque, government counsel of Jamalpur Women and Children Suppression Tribunal-1, said that the court accepted the testimony of nine people including the victim girl in the case. All the accused confessed to the rape. The allegation has been proved. Because of this, the court sentenced the three accused to death. And the court acquitted the young man.
