Three killed, two injured in Comilla highway bus collision

Three laborers were killed and two others sustained critical injuries after a passenger bus struck their battery-operated autorickshaw in the Comilla Sadar Dakshin sub-district on Saturday evening.
The collision occurred around 7:15 p.m. on the Comilla-Noakhali regional highway, near the Ratanpur Cold Storage facility. According to local police and witnesses, the bus, operating under the Shah Ali Super service, was traveling toward Comilla when it collided head-on with the oncoming autorickshaw.
The impact killed three passengers instantly. Local residents and emergency responders rushed to the scene to assist the survivors, including the autorickshaw driver, who were transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Authorities from the Laksam Crossing (Lalmai) Highway Police station arrived shortly after to recover the bodies and clear the debris.
Preliminary reports indicate that all five victims were daily-wage laborers who had migrated to the region from Rangpur and Dinajpur. Local residents noted that the Bijoypur rail crossing area serves as a primary hub for laborers seeking work, and it is believed the men were returning to their shared housing in Ratanpur and Bijoypur after completing their shifts.
Police have seized both the bus and the wrecked autorickshaw; however, the bus driver and his assistant fled the scene immediately following the crash. Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Osman Gani stated that investigators are currently working to formally identify the deceased and that formal legal proceedings against those responsible for the accident are underway.
