The BNP leader and his elderly mother-in-law were hacked

BNP leader Saiful Islam Shimul (47) and his mother-in-law Ramela Begum (60) were injured by thugs in Nawabganj, Dhaka. The incident happened on Saturday (April 11) around 8 am at the three road intersection near the house of Dakshin Jamsa Gazi chairman on the border of Nawabganj-Singair upazila.

Injured Saiful Islam is the son of Abdur Razzak Master of Dudhghata village of Sholla Union of Shimul Upazila. He is the General Secretary of Sholla Union BNP. However, Moushumi Akter, the wife of the injured, claims that the house of those who cut and injured my husband is also in Nawabganj and our house is also in Nawabganj, but the OC of Nawabganj police station is not taking any case in this incident.

According to local sources and the complaint of the victim’s family, there was a dispute between the local Aziz Master, Yunus Sukani, Hatim Ali, Shahidullah Kazeed and Sholla Union BNP general secretary Saiful Islam Shimul about the committee of Dudhghata-Jamsa-Sukanipara Madrasa and Eidgah. On Thursday, the two sides along with the local administration sat in the field. With the help of locals, at one stage the matter was in the preparation of Mimangsa after Eid-ul-Azha. At that time, it is alleged that Kazi Shahidullah threatened BNP leader Shimul.

Injured BNP leader Shimul said that on Saturday (April 11) around 8 am, he was going to Jamsa Bazar by motorcycle from Dudhghata house. The mother-in-law is going home, so she takes it with her to give it to the car. Shimul sees Aziz Master while leaving the house. While going to Jamsa Bazar, 8-10 people with iron rods, chapatis, hammers were already stationed at the junction of three roads adjacent to the house of South Jamsa Gazi Chairman. As soon as Shimu arrived there, they came from three sides of the road and blocked the speed of the motorcycle. Later, under the leadership of Aziz Master’s son Sifat, BNP leaders attacked Shimul.

The attacker hit Sifat Shimul on the head and threw him out of the car. Later, others including Sifat cut down Elopatari and beat him with rods and hammers, seriously injuring him. When Shimul’s mother-in-law tried to save her son-in-law, the attackers also cut her and injured her. The assailants fled when the laborers working in the neighboring land came forward. With the help of locals, they were brought to the Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex around 9:30 am and admitted.

Accused Aziz Master and Kazi Shahidullah said that the allegations against us are false and fabricated without foundation. They claimed to know nothing about the fight. Nawabganj Upazila BNP general secretary Abul Kalam Khandkar along with activists rushed to the hospital after getting the news.

Khandaker Abul Kalam told reporters, I rushed to the hospital as soon as I heard the incident. I will always be with the injured family on behalf of the party to get justice. The government is committed to peace. Whoever is guilty will not be exempted legally.

Moushumi Akhter, the wife of the injured, said that they attacked my husband to kill him forever. I want justice for those involved in this incident. However, he complained that the OC of Nawabganj police station is not taking the case in this incident.

Deputy Inspector (SI) of Nawabganj Police Station Rezaul Karim Khan said, I came to the hospital after getting the news. If a written complaint is received, legal action will be taken on site.

Nawabganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Alam Azad said, “No one has come to me to file a case in this regard, but I will provide all legal cooperation.”
