Police arrest suspect following murder of Comilla auto-rickshaw driver

Police in Comilla’s Muradnagar upazila have recovered the body of a 28-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, one day after he went missing, and have arrested one suspect in connection with the murder. The victim, Mahbul, a resident of Gokulnagar village, was discovered Saturday afternoon in a roadside thicket in the Darerpar area of Bailabari village.

Authorities reported that Mahbul left his home on Thursday night at approximately 10:00 p.m., telling his family he was transporting two passengers. When he failed to return and his mobile phone became unreachable, his family launched a desperate search. Their efforts proved unsuccessful until local residents spotted the body on Saturday and notified the Bangra Bazar Police Station.

According to Officer-in-Charge Md. Shafiul Alam, preliminary investigations suggest the motive for the killing was the theft of the victim’s auto-rickshaw. The vehicle was subsequently recovered by police in the Kodalkata-Mirzapur area. Following the discovery of the body, the victim’s father, Nurul Islam, filed a murder case against unidentified individuals.

The arrested suspect, identified as 25-year-old Md. Naim Islam, a native of Daudkandi residing in Muradnagar, was taken into custody on Saturday afternoon. Police stated that the suspect provided critical information during interrogation, and operations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other accomplices involved in the crime.

Mahbul’s body has been transported to the Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. The suspect is scheduled to be produced before a court on Sunday.
