A neighbor allegedly murdered a teenager four years ago, dismembered his body, and buried it on a hillside, a crime only coming to light when jackals unearthed the remains weeks later. The alleged killer, an auto-rickshaw driver, has recently been arrested and confessed to the brutal killing, detailing how a dispute over profits from drug sales escalated into the fatal assault.

The incident occurred in July 2022 in the Uchuchor Bill Puranagar area of Satkania, Chittagong. Mohammad Parvez, 24, the auto-rickshaw driver, provided a confessional statement to a judicial magistrate, outlining the events that led to the teenager’s death.

According to Parvez’s statement, he and the victim, despite an age difference, were friendly due to their proximity. The teenager, whose father is a farmer, lived with his family on a hilltop in the region. Driven by a desire for quick money, the young boy became involved in drug trafficking at a tender age.

Parvez stated that the teenager frequently used his auto-rickshaw for transporting methamphetamine, or yaba, and would pay double the usual fare. He eventually realized the boy was engaged in drug sales and demanded a share of the profits. When the teenager refused, Parvez became enraged.

The confession details that on the night of July 17, 2022, the teenager was playing carrom with friends. Parvez sent a young man named Shakib to fetch the boy, who was then taken to a local college field. There, Parvez, Shakib, and several others confronted the teenager, demanding yaba and money. They also confiscated a bundle of cash from the boy’s pocket. The group then beat him and dragged him to a nearby bridge. On the bridge, two individuals restrained the teenager while another, identified as Hasan, stated he could not be allowed to live for fear of him identifying them. Subsequently, a sharp spade was used to inflict severe injuries to the teenager’s legs and neck, resulting in his immediate death. His head was then severed from his body. To conceal the crime, the killers dug a hole on a nearby hill and buried the severed head and body, even cutting the hair from the head to hinder identification.

Parvez’s statement also revealed that the killers poured water over the scene to wash away bloodstains. Approximately 20 to 21 days after the burial, jackals dug up the hillside, exposing parts of the corpse. The victim’s family later identified the body based on his clothing.

Following the discovery of the remains, the teenager’s father filed a case at the Satkania police station. Initially investigated by the local police, the case saw no significant progress for an extended period. The victim’s father then requested the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over. On October 9, 2024, the court ordered the CID to investigate.

Inspector Mosharraf Hossain of the CID’s Chittagong region, who is investigating the case, told reporters that identifying the teenager’s associates led them to Parvez after multiple visits to Satkania. Parvez admitted his involvement during interrogation last Thursday night and was subsequently arrested and presented before the court, where he gave his confessional statement. The CID is continuing its efforts to apprehend the other individuals involved in the murder.

Mohammad Salah Uddin, Special Superintendent of Police for the CID Chittagong region, stated that the mystery of this once “clueless” case has been solved. He confirmed that the murder and subsequent concealment of the body were orchestrated by Parvez, fueled by the dispute over drug profits. An indictment is expected to be filed in court soon.

The victim’s father expressed his grief and anger, stating that the accused brutally murdered and hid his son’s body. He recalled his son using Parvez’s auto-rickshaw and never imagined that Parvez would kill him for money. He urged for the swift arrest of all perpetrators and demanded exemplary punishment, hoping no other parent would have to endure such loss.
