Teenager arrested for attempted rape of six-year-old in Rajbari as victims family reports threats

Police in Rajbari have arrested a 14-year-old boy on charges of attempting to rape a six-year-old girl in the district’s Sadar upazila. The teenager was transferred to a juvenile correction center in Gazipur on Monday following a court order.
The incident occurred last Saturday when the victim’s mother left the child unattended to visit a relative. According to the case filed by the girl’s mother at the Rajbari Sadar Police Station, the suspect lured the child into his home under the guise of offering her biscuits, where he subsequently attempted to assault her. The girl’s mother returned home shortly after and discovered the child missing. Upon hearing her daughter’s cries coming from the neighbor’s property, she rushed toward the house, prompting the suspect to flee the scene.
The victim’s father has since reported that his family is facing significant intimidation. He alleged that the suspect’s family, who he described as influential, has been pressuring them to withdraw the legal complaint. The father stated that he has been receiving threats, including warnings that he would not be allowed to leave his home. He further reported that an attempt was made to assault him as recently as Tuesday afternoon, an incident he has brought to the attention of local law enforcement.
Uttam Kumar Ghosh, the officer-in-charge of Rajbari Sadar Police Station, confirmed the arrest and the transfer of the suspect to the juvenile facility. Responding to the concerns regarding the victim’s family, the police official stated that authorities are taking necessary steps to ensure their security. The girl’s father continues to demand justice for his daughter, insisting on both legal accountability for the accused and long-term protection for his family.
