Suchanda, Sabina Yasmin Honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards at BIFA

Living legend of Bengali music, Sabina Yasmin, and distinguished Dhallywood actress Kohinoor Akhter Suchonda are set to receive lifetime achievement awards at the fifth annual Bangladesh Institute of Film and Arts (BIFA) Awards. The prestigious ceremony will take place this Friday, May 8, at the Hall of Fame within the China-Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.
The grand event, marking BIFA Awards Season 5, will honor these two accomplished artists with its most significant accolade, recognizing their immense contributions to the nation’s cultural landscape.
Commenting on the recognition, Sabina Yasmin expressed her sentiments, stating that “awards are inspiring for any artist.” She added, “Besides the love of Bengali listeners spread across the globe, I have received many awards both at home and abroad. Still, the BIFA Lifetime Achievement Award is special to me because it involves the aspiring young generation.”
Suchonda, reflecting on her long absence from acting, remarked, “The greatest joy is that the new generation still remembers me.” She further noted, “Despite my reluctance to accept awards at various times, I am joyfully accepting the BIFA Lifetime Achievement Award.”
This year’s BIFA Awards will fete excellence across 29 categories, determined by a combination of audience votes and a jury board, spanning music, dance, fashion, drama, Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms, and cinema. Attendees can also anticipate a dynamic program featuring celebrity performances, a fashion show, a red carpet event, and a dedicated glamour segment.
The BIFA Lifetime Achievement Award was first introduced in Season 3. Previous honorees include renowned singer Runa Laila, as well as celebrated artists Shamim Ara Nipa and Shibli Mohammad. Yasmin and Suchonda will now join this esteemed list of cultural icons.
