Teenage football player dies after goalpost collapses in Chittagong

A football match ended in tragedy in Chittagong on Friday morning after a teenager died following a freak accident at the Begumjan High School field in the Halishahar area.
Mahidul Islam, a migrant worker from Patuakhali who was employed as a painter in the city, had been playing football with a group of friends when the incident occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. According to witnesses, Mahidul attempted to jump and hang from the metal crossbar of the goalpost during a post-match celebration. The structure, which was unsecured, detached from its mountings and collapsed onto his chest as he fell to the ground.
The teenager was rushed to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital by his brother-in-law and cousin, but he was declared dead upon arrival by attending physicians.
Sohel Rana, assistant in-charge of the police outpost at the medical college, confirmed the fatality. He stated that the victim suffered critical injuries during the collapse, and his body will be released to his family once the necessary legal procedures are completed.
