Taking care of yourself is essential to staying mentally healthy

Working women have multifaceted responsibilities such as job, child rearing, family management and personal life balance. Amidst this busyness and pressure, many times the issue of one’s mental well-being remains neglected. Experts say that when a mother is mentally healthy, not only her own life, but also the family and workplace have a positive impact.
Minder Bandhu, an organization working on mental health, organized an awareness program on how to reduce stress, find time for yourself and stay mentally healthy for working mothers at Prothom Alo office in Karwan Bazar of the capital on Tuesday. The event was organized for women workers of Prothom Alo. 50 women workers of the company were present in it.
Kazi Rumana Haque, Chief Psychologist and Head of Mental Health Program of Moner Bandhu, discussed various aspects of working women’s mental health, self-care, work-life balance and coping with stress in this event titled ‘Mental Wellness Awareness Session’ as part of World Mother’s Day.
The women workers of Prothom Alo present at the event shared their practical experience of coping with mental anxiety, workplace stress and family responsibilities.
Kazi Rumana Haque says that alongside the pressures of work, raising children, taking care of the family and finding time for herself—all create an invisible stress on working mothers. Many times they cannot express their problems or do not give importance to their needs. As a result, mental fatigue gradually develops. He said, to be mentally healthy, it is important to take care of yourself. Setting aside some time each day for yourself, getting enough rest, engaging in favorite activities and expressing feelings are important for mental health.
Regarding the event, Touhida Shiropa, founder and chief executive officer of Mener Bandhu, said, “Mener Bandhu” has been working with mental health care for a long time. Apart from providing counseling services, they are also conducting various awareness activities.
