Sylhet administration moves to develop road access to tourist hotspot Minatila

Sylhet District Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun has initiated plans to pave the access road to Minatila, a picturesque border region in the Jaintiapur upazila that has recently gained popularity as a “mini Switzerland” for its scenic hills, clouds, and river views.
The administration’s intervention follows a report published by Prothom Alo, which highlighted the immense tourism potential of the site while underscoring the poor condition of the current thoroughfare, which hinders visitor access. In response to these findings, the District Commissioner issued a formal directive on Monday to the executive engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Sylhet, instructing them to take immediate steps to address the infrastructure deficit.
In his official communication to the LGED, the District Commissioner noted that while Minatila possesses significant natural beauty, its lack of reliable road connectivity prevents it from emerging as a fully functional tourist destination.
The proposal specifically requests the paving of a 1.5-kilometer stretch of road connecting Bangla Bazar to Minatila. By upgrading this route, the administration aims to ensure safe and convenient passage for travelers, ultimately fostering regional economic growth through the sustainable development of the local tourism sector.
