State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam has signaled a major development push for Bogura, alleging that the district has been systematically deprived of progress for the past two decades. Speaking at the inauguration of the Shahid Ziaur Rahman Children’s Hospital’s expanded facilities on Thursday, the minister asserted that current efforts to modernize the region are facing deliberate attempts to sow discord through social media campaigns.

Addressing a gathering in the city’s Dattabari area, the event was organized to mark the birthday of cardiologist Zubaida Rahman. The minister emphasized that while constructive and lawful criticism of government work is welcome, his administration remains committed to moving forward with its agenda. He confirmed that the cabinet is expected to grant preliminary approval for the Bogura University Act, pledging that long-promised regional development projects will proceed despite attempts to create instability.

Regarding local infrastructure, the minister announced plans to expand the six-story Shahid Ziaur Rahman Children’s Hospital to eight stories. He further outlined a commitment to increase the facility’s capacity from 50 beds to at least 101 or 150 beds, noting that the administration is prepared to acquire adjacent properties if necessary to facilitate the expansion.

Turning to the broader political climate, the state minister issued a warning regarding the banned Awami League. He urged party activists, the public, and local administration to remain vigilant against potential attempts by the organization to stage a resurgence on June 23, the date of its founding. He suggested that ongoing distractions in the digital space are designed to divert attention from these political risks.

The inaugural event was presided over by Bogura-6 lawmaker and district BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha. Other prominent figures in attendance included Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kamaruzzaman Chowdhury, Bogura-4 lawmaker Mosharraf Hossain, and various local administrative officials, all of whom reiterated the necessity of sustained infrastructure development to overcome the district’s historical marginalization.
