Police have yet to identify or apprehend any suspects following a brazen daylight shooting and robbery in Dhaka’s Motijheel district that left a currency trader hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds. As of Monday, no formal legal case has been filed regarding the incident, which occurred Sunday afternoon in front of the Janata Bank branch near Shapla Chattar.

The victim, identified as currency exchanger Md. Lokman, remains under treatment at Mugda Medical College Hospital after sustaining four bullet wounds to his right arm and leg. According to his son-in-law, Md. Rakib, the victim was carrying approximately $17,000 in a bag when he was targeted. The family plans to initiate formal legal proceedings once Lokman’s condition stabilizes.

Investigators believe the robbery was a coordinated effort involving multiple accomplices beyond the two individuals who directly confronted the victim. Law enforcement officials are currently analyzing high-resolution closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, which reportedly tracks three motorcycles involved in the operation.

Eyewitnesses reported that the confrontation began when two men attempted to snatch the victim’s bag. When Lokman resisted, the assailants opened fire, causing nearby pedestrians to flee in panic. The suspects successfully seized the bag before fleeing the scene on motorcycles.
