Six college students were injured in a collision between a battery-operated rickshaw and a truck on Sunday while traveling to sit for their third-year bachelor’s degree examinations in Bagmara, Rajshahi. The accident occurred at the Basantapur intersection on the Hat Gangopara-Bhabaniganj road, leaving the students unable to attend their scheduled afternoon examination.

The victims, all students of Hat Gangopara Degree College, were en route to the Bhabaniganj Women’s Degree College center when the collision took place around 1:30 p.m. In addition to the six students—identified as Ambia Khatun, Ismat Ara, Israt Jahan, Nasrin Akter, Jannatun Khatun, and Iqbal Hossain—the rickshaw driver, Golam Hossain, also sustained serious injuries. Local residents rescued the group and transported them to nearby medical facilities and the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for urgent treatment.

The incident has sparked frustration among guardians, who have raised concerns regarding the placement of examination centers. One parent noted that while students previously sat for exams at the Machmoil Degree College center just three kilometers away, this year they were required to travel 15 kilometers to the Bhabaniganj center.

College Principal Mahabur Rahman explained that the Bhabaniganj venue was designated for the degree examinations, noting that the Machmoil center is typically utilized for Higher Secondary Certificate assessments. Following the accident, Rahman stated that the college is committed to assisting the injured students. He confirmed that the administration intends to appeal to the National University to ensure the students are granted an opportunity to sit for the missed papers.
