Content creator Ashraful Alom, widely known as Hero Alom, has been named among 28 individuals, including journalists and figures from the cultural sector, in a complaint filed with the International Crimes Tribunal. The legal action, submitted Sunday by the civic organization State Dialogue Forum (SDF), accuses the group of crimes against humanity during the July 2024 mass uprising.

Al Nur Mohammad Ayas, the central member secretary of the SDF, formally submitted the complaint to the tribunal’s chief prosecutor. The filing marks the latest development in a series of legal inquiries following the political upheaval, though the specific evidence presented against Alom remains under review by the tribunal.

In response to the allegations, Alom categorically denied any involvement in the reported crimes, labeling the case as a fabricated attempt to damage his reputation and intimidate him. He asserted that he has consistently opposed the previous Awami League administration, noting that he was a frequent target of violence and physical assault for his public criticisms of the party’s leadership, including former cabinet members and the Prime Minister.

The content creator framed the lawsuit as a product of political vengeance, questioning the timing of the complaint filed months after the events in question. He maintained that he actively supported the student-led movement and identified himself as a participant in the July uprising. “I have always stood by the students. Why is my name being targeted only now?” Alom said during a press conference, suggesting that the complaint is a retaliatory tactic by opponents.

Alom further challenged his accusers to provide evidence of his alleged misconduct, warning that he would pursue legal action against them if they failed to substantiate their claims in court. Refuting any ties to the Awami League, he challenged critics to produce any record of him campaigning for the party, arguing that his history of speaking out against systemic injustice serves as his primary defense.
