Prothom Alo received awards and honorable recognition

Prothom Alo received a third prize and two honorable recognitions in the ‘Global Media Awards 2026’ organized by the International News Media Association (INMA), a major global media organization.

The award was announced and presented yesterday Thursday (May 7) at 7 pm local time (11 pm Bangladesh time) at the closing evening of the World Media Congress at the TP am Chancellort Theater in Berlin, Germany.

This year, Prothom Alo received the third prize in the category of ‘Best Use of an Event to Build a News Brand’ (National Brand) for the initiative ‘GPA-5 Acknowledgment Award 2025’. Prothom Alo received this award in the category of ‘Next Gen Achievers: Recognizing and Inspiring the Next Generation of Leaders’.

India’s Dainik Jagran came first in the national brand category and New Zealand’s Business Desk came second.

Prothom Alo won honorable mention in the category of ‘Best Brand Awareness Campaign’ (National Brand) for the initiative ‘Tabu Matha Noabar Nai’. Norway’s Fedrelandsvenen, Belgium’s Newsblad and Canada’s Toronto Star came first, second and third in this category respectively.

Prothom Alo has also earned prestigious recognition for eight Prothom Alo schools, known as Alo Pathshalas, established in remote areas in the ‘Best Public Relations or Community Service’ (National Brand) category. Australia’s News Corp, India’s Dainik Jagran and Switzerland’s Beobachter are first, second and third in this category respectively.

Another media outlet of Bangladesh, Daily Star, received a third award this year. Best Initiative to Bolster Next Generation Leadership (National Brand) Awarded by Daily Star.

International News Media Association (INMA) is an organization consisting of more than 1000 media from 102 countries. Since 1937, they have been recognizing various unique initiatives of the press.

In this competition, which is one of the most prestigious for newspapers, magazines, digital platforms, television and radio of different countries, 960 initiatives have been submitted from 274 media organizations of 46 countries. Out of these, 200 initiatives were selected as ‘finalists’ (placed in the final phase of the competition) by a jury consisting of 60 media executives from 26 countries around the world. From there, awards are given in 20 categories in 8 categories.

Apart from Prothom Alo, this year’s awardees include The Washington Post and The Boston Globe of the United States, Financial Times of the United Kingdom, Toronto Star of Canada, Amedia of Norway, The Waikato Times of New Zealand, Presa Media and The Vocento of Spain, NTM of Sweden, Alma Media of Finland, RBS Group of Brazil, The Hindu, Jagran Prakash and APB of India, News Corporation of Australia, Hong Kong The South China Morning Post is the owner of several national newspapers and media outlets.

Earl J. Wilkinson, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Inmar, said, ‘This year’s winning initiatives are clear that artificial intelligence has moved beyond the experimental stage to become a strategic and integral part of operations. At the same time, integrated readership systems are being developed instead of focusing on simple subscriber growth. Where long-term valuation is given more importance than just acquiring new customers.

Under the initiative of Sikho-Pratham Alo, meritorious students who obtained GPA-5 in SSC and equivalent examinations are felicitated across the country. More than 80 thousand students participated in this program organized in 64 districts. The special aspect of the event was to create a fun and inspiring experience for the students with a combination of gifts, entertainment and educational activities.

This international recognition is in recognition of the manner in which the top media of the country turned around and took the incident to the readers and viewers after the planned and organized terrorist attack and arson of the Prothom Alo office. The marketing campaign received massive response through a multi-dimensional presentation across print, online and social media.

One of the most important initiatives of Prothom Alo Trust ‘Alor Pathshala’ is running eight primary and secondary schools in remote areas of the country. Free education opportunities have been created for the underprivileged children and youth in these schools. Besides, there are various activities and training programs that help in their social and cultural development. Prothom Alo Trust is running the schools in the remote areas of the country in collaboration with Prothom Alo Trust. This humanitarian and educational initiative has been recognized in the international arena.

Prothom Alo has received a total of 11 awards including two first prizes, the best in South Asia in the past years at the ‘INMA Global Media Awards’.

Apart from this, Prothom Alo received a total of 13 awards including 3 golds at ONE-Ifra South Asian Digital Media Awards. One-Ifra’s global event also received two top awards at the Sustainability and Print Innovation Awards.
