Shariatpur man arrested for attempted rape of four-year-old child

Police in Shariatpur have arrested a 65-year-old man following allegations that he attempted to rape a four-year-old girl in the district’s Sadar upazila. The suspect, identified as Hasan Molla, was taken into custody late Monday night after local residents intervened and held him until law enforcement arrived.
According to details provided by the Palong Model Police Station, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon while the young girl was playing near a pond close to her home. Authorities allege that Molla lured the child into the water and attempted to assault her. Two teenagers nearby witnessed the struggle and alerted the child’s mother after the girl began screaming for help.

The alarm raised by the mother quickly drew a crowd of local residents, who apprehended the suspect and held him in a room while protesting for justice. The situation escalated briefly when villagers initially blocked local police from the Burirhat outpost from taking the man into custody. Order was eventually restored after additional officers were dispatched to the scene to secure the suspect.
The child’s father filed a formal case against Molla under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act late Monday night. Palong Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shah Alam confirmed the arrest and stated that an investigation into the incident is currently underway. Molla is expected to be presented before a court on Tuesday.
