Rokeya University’s former vice-chancellor Hasibur ordered to be sent to prison

Former vice chancellor of Rangpur Begum Rokeya University (Berobi) who was convicted in the case of crimes against humanity. Hasibur Rashid has been ordered to be sent to jail.
The three-member International Criminal Tribunal-II headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury gave this order on Sunday. The other two members of this tribunal are Judge Md. Manjurul Bachid and Judge Noor Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.
Hasibur Rashid was produced in the tribunal today at noon. Later the tribunal ordered him to be sent to jail.
Hasibur Rashid The first martyr of the July uprising is Hasibur Rashid, the accused who was convicted in the case of the murder of Abu Saeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur.
Prosecutor Farooq Ahmed said in a briefing on the premises of the tribunal that the convicted accused had been absconding for a long time. He was arrested by the police of Mohammadpur police station in the capital. He was produced in the tribunal today. Tribunal-II ordered him to be sent to jail. He will serve his sentence from today.
Prosecutor Farooq Ahmed said that the lawyer has taken permission to file the power of attorney on behalf of Hasibur Rashid. He said that the judgment of the case has been done correctly, but the ‘certified copy’ of the judgment has not been released yet. For this reason, Hasibur Rashid can appeal subject to receiving this copy of the judgment. He can appeal within 30 days of receiving the certified copy of the judgment. The prosecution expects Hasibur Rashid’s conviction to be upheld in the High Court.
The judgment of this case was announced on April 9. All 30 accused were sentenced in the verdict. 2 former policemen were given death sentence and 28 other accused were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. Three of them, also former members of the police, were sentenced to life imprisonment. Among the accused, Hasibur Rashid, former vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment.
Hasibur Rashid was absconding for so long. The police arrested him from a house on Salimullah Road in Mohammadpur of the capital yesterday at around eight o’clock on Saturday night.
