Restructuring in BPC during energy crisis

The country’s energy sector is already unstable due to the tension and war situation surrounding Iran in the Middle East. From oil imports to supply systems, pressure has increased everywhere. Among them, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) has reshuffled several important positions in various organizations under them on Thursday. An office order has also been issued in this regard.
As per office order, Yusuf Hossain Bhuiyan has been made Managing Director (MD) of Jamuna Oil Company Limited. He was earlier serving as Senior General Manager (Marketing & Distribution) of BPC and MD of LP Gas Limited.
The current MD engineer of Yamuna Oil. Ameer Masood has been posted to LP Gas Limited in the same post. BPC Senior General Manager (Audit) Abul Kalam Azad has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Standard Asiatic Oil Company Limited.
Muhammad Morshed Hossain has been transferred from the Department of Commerce and Operations to the General Manager of the Finance Department. In his place, Mohammad Zahid Hossain has been given charge of trade and operations department. He was attached to the BPC Chairman’s office for so long.
On the other hand, the CEO of Standard Asiatic Oil Company, Ferdousi Masum, has been made the General Manager of Marketing and Distribution Department of BPC. And the general manager of the finance department. Jahangir Kabir has been posted to the Audit Department, in the same capacity.
BPC Secretary Shahina Sultana told Prothom Alo that this reshuffle has been done due to administrative necessity. This will not have any negative impact on the operation.
However, several officials and analysts related to the energy sector say that there is additional pressure on the energy supply system in the current situation. Major changes at this time may affect continuity of operations. Maintaining policy continuity and coherence can be a challenge, especially with multiple changes in positions in recent months.
It should be noted that BPC is the central organization of the country’s energy sector. Import, refining, storage and distribution—the entire supply chain is controlled by this company. Eight state-owned companies are currently working under it. Among them, Eastern Refinery is the only oil refinery in the country, which refines crude oil and ensures supply. On the other hand, Padma Oil, Yamuna Oil and Meghna Petroleum are in charge of fuel oil marketing through depots and sales centers across the country.
Besides Standard Asiatic Oil Company manufactures and markets lubricating oil, LP Gas Limited supplies liquefied petroleum gas. Eastern Lubricants Blenders and Petroleum Transportation Company are also important parts of this structure.
