Railway staff and two police officers accused of raping woman on Kurigram Express train

A 44-year-old female passenger has filed a rape case against a canteen worker and two unidentified police officers following an incident aboard the Kurigram Express, an intercity train traveling from Dhaka to Kurigram. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night, leading to the filing of a formal complaint at the Santahar Government Railway Police (GRP) station on Tuesday.

The accused canteen worker, 22-year-old Abu Bakkar Siddique, a resident of the Abdulpur area in Natore, has been arrested and remanded into judicial custody. Police are currently investigating the alleged involvement of the two unidentified officers responsible for security on the train.

According to the case files and railway police reports, the survivor, a resident of Sirajganj Sadar, boarded the train at the Dhaka Airport railway station on Sunday night. Intending to visit relatives, she planned to disembark at the Parbatipur station in Dinajpur, as the train does not have a scheduled stop in Sirajganj.

The complainant alleged that after the train passed the Sirajganj station, the two police officers approached her under the pretext of conducting a body search and escorted her to the train’s pantry car. She stated that the officers molested her before she was subjected to sexual assault by the canteen worker, Abu Bakkar Siddique.

The woman subsequently reported the assault by calling the 999 national emergency hotline. Upon receiving the report, a team from the Santahar railway police intercepted the train and took the canteen worker into custody.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dulal Uddin of the Santahar railway police station confirmed the arrest and stated that the two unidentified police officers have been named as co-accused in the case. Authorities are conducting an investigation to verify the extent of the officers’ involvement. The survivor has undergone a medical examination at the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.
