Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, visited the Kazi Fazlul Haque Women’s Hostel at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) on Saturday, marking a sentimental return to the campus where Dr. Rahman once resided as a student. The visit followed the official inauguration of ‘DMC Day-2026,’ which the Prime Minister opened earlier that morning by releasing balloons and pigeons.

The atmosphere outside the hostel was one of jubilation as students gathered at the main gate to welcome the couple. Reflecting on their journey to the college, the Prime Minister shared a lighthearted personal anecdote, noting that he had insisted Dr. Rahman sit in the front seat of their vehicle, a tradition he maintained from the days when he would drop her off at the institution during her medical studies.

During an interaction with the students, the Prime Minister expressed his well wishes for their future, urging them to strive for success in their respective professional endeavors. The visit proved deeply nostalgic for Dr. Rahman, who became visibly emotional as she recalled her formative years on the campus. She encouraged the students to maintain resilience in the face of life’s inevitable challenges, advising them not to harbor negativity but to remain focused on a bright and productive future.

Looking toward the institution’s potential, Dr. Rahman emphasized the importance of elevating the standards of the medical college to a global level. She challenged the current student body to work toward a future where the college is recognized internationally for its excellence in medical care, serving as a source of national pride. The event concluded with an informal session as the students gathered to take photographs with the Prime Minister and Dr. Rahman.
