Prime Minister distributes aid to mark Ziaur Rahman death anniversary

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) marked the 45th death anniversary of its founder and former president, Ziaur Rahman, on Saturday with a nationwide series of humanitarian initiatives aimed at supporting impoverished citizens.

The commemoration began in the morning with a tribute at Rahman’s grave in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, led by party chairman Tarique Rahman. Following the ceremony, a formal program was inaugurated at the Rajdhani High School premises on Manik Mia Avenue. The event provided free medical services alongside the distribution of clothing and essential food supplies to the underprivileged.

Key party figures were present to oversee the proceedings, including Salauddin Ahmed, Aminul Haque, Shafiul Islam Khan Milton, and Anwaruzzaman. The distribution campaign is scheduled to continue throughout the day across 16 additional locations within the Dhaka North and South city corporation areas.

Ziaur Rahman, who founded the BNP in 1978, was assassinated on May 30, 1981, by a group of dissident military officers at the Chittagong Circuit House during his tenure as president. The party observes the anniversary annually as a day of mourning, with its associated wings holding various commemorative events across the country to honor his legacy.
