Policy for hawkers to restore order on sidewalks

The government has issued ‘Dhaka City Hawker Management Policy-2026’ to reduce foot traffic and traffic congestion in Dhaka. It also talked about registration of hawkers, establishment of businesses at designated places, holiday and night markets. The policy prohibits day hawking in populated areas; The night market will open from 6 pm to 10 pm. Hawkers cannot sit next to main roads and important connecting roads. Hawker zones should be designated 30-40 feet away from metro stations, bus stops or important junctions.
