Authorities in Anwara, Chittagong, have launched an investigation after a 19-year-old woman was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital under suspicious circumstances. The victim, Khadija Akter, was brought to the Anwara Upazila Health Complex emergency department by her husband, Mohammad Maruf, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.

According to hospital staff, physicians declared the woman dead following a preliminary examination. Immediately after the pronouncement, Maruf and his accompanying relatives reportedly fled the facility, leaving the body behind. Medical officer Upama Chowdhury confirmed that the patient had already succumbed before reaching the hospital and noted that staff were unable to locate any family members at the scene.

Khadija Akter, the daughter of Abdul Jalil from the Malghar Bazar area, had been married for seven months. Her family alleges that she was murdered, with her brother, Md. Farhad, stating that they suspect she was killed prior to being taken to the hospital. Her father added that the marriage had taken place against their wishes seven months ago and that she had been living with her husband since that time.

Local police responded to the scene and transported the body to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Investigators observed a mark on the victim’s neck, though authorities have stopped short of confirming foul play pending the results of the medical examination.
