Police arrest two more suspects in Mymensingh gang rape case

Police in Mymensingh have arrested two more suspects in connection with the gang rape of a woman in Gafargaon, bringing the total number of detainees to three. The suspects, identified as 30-year-old Md. Shakil and 40-year-old Hiron Khan, were apprehended during separate operations on Thursday.

Law enforcement officers, assisted by the district detective branch, arrested Shakil in Phulbaria on Thursday afternoon. Hiron Khan was subsequently taken into custody in Sreepur, Gazipur, that evening. The arrests follow the detention of a third suspect, Shahab Uddin, who was apprehended on Wednesday and has since been remanded for two days by a local court.

The incident occurred late Tuesday night when a group of seven to eight individuals forced their way into the victim’s home. According to police and the victim’s family, the assailants held the 20-year-old woman’s husband at knifepoint, binding his hands, feet, and eyes, before abducting the woman and taking her to a secluded location where she was gang-raped.

The victim’s family reported the assault to local authorities on Wednesday morning with the assistance of neighbors. A formal complaint was subsequently filed against four identified individuals and four unidentified accomplices.

Mymensingh Superintendent of Police Mohammad Kamrul Hassan confirmed the arrests and stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects still at large.
