Panchagarh teacher locked up on charges of sexual harassment of schoolgirl, rescued after five hours

Angry people blocked the headmaster of a government primary school for at least five hours for allegedly sexually harassing a student in Boda upazila of Panchagarh. The incident took place at a primary school in Boda Upazila from nine in the morning to three in the afternoon on Sunday.

After receiving the information, the police came after three o’clock and rescued the teacher and took him to Boda police station. At that time, Boda Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Rabiul Islam, Boda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Soel Rana and the Chairman of the local Union Parishad were present.

According to the police, the victim’s family and local sources, the victim of class IV came to drop her younger sister at school around 9 am today. Then the head teacher of the school asked him to go to the second floor of the school and show the reading to the pre-primary students. After some time, the head teacher went there and allegedly sexually harassed the student. Later, the student went home and informed her mother. In protest of this incident, around 10 am some local people along with family members went to the school and beat up the teacher inside the office and closed the door from outside.

When the incident became known in the area, the crowd gradually increased and the angry people started shouting slogans outside demanding justice for the teacher. On receiving the information, Boda police station went to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. Around 3 o’clock, additional police from the district went and rescued the teacher and took him to the police station.

The victim’s mother said, “That teacher misbehaved with my daughter. Now the child cannot speak. I want justice for this incident.

Boda police station OC Soel Rana told Prothom Alo on the phone that the head teacher was rescued and taken into custody. The victim girl’s father is preparing to file a complaint.

UNO Rabiul Islam told Prothom Alo on the phone that the primary truth of the complaint against the head teacher has been found. It is known that such allegations were made against him earlier. He appears to be a habitual criminal. The victim girl’s family has been asked to file a police complaint. Apart from this, the process of temporary dismissal is going on.
