Natore Jatiyotabadi Chhatra Dal leader expelled for falsely announcing Section 144 to disrupt football match

The Natore District unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has expelled Maruf Ali, a joint convener of its Lalpur Upazila committee, for violating organizational discipline. The expulsion follows an incident in which Ali allegedly orchestrated a fraudulent announcement of Section 144 to disrupt a local football tournament after organizers failed to invite him as a guest.

The expulsion order, signed by District JCD Assistant Office Secretary K.F. Kamrul Islam and approved by District President Kamrul Islam and General Secretary Maruf Islam, was issued on Tuesday afternoon. According to the notice, Ali had been issued a show-cause letter on August 23. The organization stated that his response was unsatisfactory and that he admitted to the allegations brought against him. Consequently, he has been stripped of his position as joint convener and dismissed from the primary membership of the party.

The controversy originated last Friday at the Keshabpur School ground in Lalpur, where a local football tournament final was scheduled. Ali reportedly sought to be included as a guest for the prize-giving ceremony. However, organizers adhered to local traditions by selecting village elders for the roles, which incensed Ali.

Following the slight, Ali allegedly hired a public address system to broadcast false claims that Section 144 had been imposed on the venue. Fearing legal repercussions, villagers canceled both the match and the subsequent ceremony. It was later determined that neither the Upazila Nirbahi Officer nor any executive magistrate had issued such an order, confirming that the announcement was a maneuver initiated by Ali to disrupt the proceedings.

After reports of the incident gained traction on social media, the district leadership summoned Ali to the district Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) office on August 24 to explain his actions. Following the failed explanation, the formal decision to expel him was finalized.

K.F. Kamrul Islam confirmed that the expulsion letter was dispatched to Ali on Tuesday. While the district leadership asserts that the notification process is complete, Ali stated on Tuesday afternoon that he had not yet received the official letter.
