A suspect in the murder of Narayanganj cable operator Md. Nasir Uddin was assaulted by a crowd Tuesday within the premises of the Narayanganj court, even as police officers attempted to escort him to a remand hearing.

The incident occurred as the suspect, identified as Sharif, was being led into the courthouse. According to witnesses and local authorities, a group of people gathered near the courtroom and began shouting slogans expressing their outrage over the killing of Nasir. When Sharif stumbled near the entrance, several individuals from the crowd physically attacked him before additional police officers and attending lawyers intervened to restore order.

Nasir Uddin was fatally stabbed on May 14 at his office in the Chanmari area of the city. Following his death, his wife filed a murder case at the Fatullah Police Station, naming Sharif as the primary suspect. The case has sparked significant local anger, which legal counsel for the plaintiff, Md. Salauddin Bhuiyan, noted contributed to the volatile atmosphere during the suspect’s arrival at the courthouse.

Inspector Md. Abdus Samad, who oversees the court police, confirmed that while members of the public attempted to assault the suspect, the police were able to bring the situation under control quickly. Following the incident, the court proceeded with the hearing and granted police a five-day remand for Sharif to assist in the ongoing investigation into the murder, despite an initial request from investigators for seven days.
