Minister’s ultimatum to the administration

Labor and Employment and Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury has given an ultimatum to the law enforcement forces to prevent extortion in Sylhet.

He said, he wants to see positive results within a week to prevent extortion.

In this context, the minister said that the law and order situation in Sylhet has become so bad in the context of Bangladesh. Administration and leaders are proactive. The situation is better this month than last month. But we have set the time. Don’t want to hear any complaints within a week.

He said these things while talking to the journalists after the monthly meeting of the District Law and Order Committee at the District Commissioner’s office in Sylhet on Sunday afternoon.

At that time, the Expatriate Welfare and Employment Minister also said that the government is extending visas through diplomatic discussions with various countries if there is any problem related to visas for those who have returned from the Middle East.

Stating that expatriates killed in war situations are being brought home, he said that the missions are working for the safety of those who want to stay abroad.

Speaking about the achievements during the recent visit to Malaysia, he said the signing of the joint venture has been fruitful and successful. The Prime Minister of Malaysia addressed the Prime Minister of Bangladesh as Brother. The route to Malaysia was closed during the fascist regime. It will open soon.

He said, why only Malaysia – the government has started working everywhere. Hope to see positive results.

Earlier, the Minister said in the Law and Order Committee meeting, whether I or the Commerce Minister is present in the monthly meeting of the Law and Order Committee, he will send us the monthly report. It will be beneficial for us if we know what was proposed, what is being implemented or not.

The meeting reviewed the overall law and order situation in the district and took various important decisions to ensure public safety.

In his speech, Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury ordered the concerned forces to be extremely vigilant in preventing drug and all kinds of smuggling in the border areas.

He said to the BGB in the meeting, he gave me a map of the routes through which smuggled goods come and go at the border site. Especially BGB now needs to give checks at oil depots. From here the oil can flow out. For this, set up separate check posts at those spots. If we can control the border area, we will see that there will be no oil crisis. Government is subsidizing. But if it goes the other way, what will be the benefit of the people?

He said, despite so much pressure on the government, it is very sad if the oil goes out after paying so much money. You take a tougher stance on this. He discussed with the local administration how much area needs to be protected on the border We can reduce our shooting here or something like that – take that action.

The minister urged the administration to take strict legal measures to stop illegal sand and stone quarrying in different parts of the district and specifically directed the concerned authorities to take effective steps to stop the harassment of foreign and expatriate passengers at Sylhet Osmani International Airport.
