Measles Outbreak Claims Two More Children as National Infection Count Surpasses 117,000

Two more children have died from symptoms related to measles within the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since mid-March to 731. According to the latest report from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released on Saturday, the latest fatalities were recorded in Dhaka and Sylhet.
Between Friday morning and Saturday morning, health officials documented 732 new cases exhibiting measles symptoms, while 101 individuals were officially diagnosed with the disease, pushing the total number of new infections to 833.

Since the surveillance began on March 15, authorities have recorded a total of 117,219 pediatric cases. Of this figure, 104,693 children displayed symptoms of the illness, and 12,526 were confirmed to have contracted measles. Official data indicates that while 93 children have died specifically from confirmed measles cases, the vast majority of the 731 recorded deaths occurred in children presenting with measles-like symptoms.
The burden on the healthcare system remains significant, with 87,966 children requiring hospitalization for measles-related complications since March 15. Of those admitted, 84,218 have since been discharged following treatment.
