Measles outbreak claims 831 children in Bangladesh as new infections surge

Measles and associated symptoms claimed the lives of three more children in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 831 since mid-March. According to the latest data released Wednesday by the Directorate General of Health Services, the most recent fatalities occurred in the Chittagong division’s Bandarban district and in Dhaka.
The figures underscore a persistent public health challenge, with the nation recording 1,075 new cases of measles and related symptoms within the last day alone. Of those new cases, 79 have been clinically confirmed as measles. Since the surge began on March 15, the cumulative number of affected children has reached 142,279, with 15,739 confirmed cases of the virus.

Health officials reported that since the onset of the outbreak four months ago, 109,366 children have required hospital admission due to measles-related symptoms. Amidst the rising infection rates, medical facilities have managed to successfully treat and discharge 105,198 patients who have since returned home.
