Krishak Dal leader arrested for assaulting and threatening CID inspector inside Dinajpur police station

Police in Dinajpur have arrested Mujibar Rahman, a local leader of the Krishak Dal, on charges of assaulting and threatening a police inspector inside the Kotwali Police Station. The incident occurred late Sunday night when Rahman, 56, allegedly struck Inspector Nawabur Rahman during an altercation.

Inspector Nawabur Rahman, who is currently attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), filed a formal case against Mujibar Rahman and two unidentified individuals following the confrontation. Rahman serves as the member secretary of the district unit of the Krishak Dal and is known locally as a garage owner and member of the Baluadanga Workers Union.

According to the police report, the incident began when Inspector Nawabur Rahman, who was dressed in civilian clothes, visited the station to review documents related to a murder investigation. While waiting, he was approached by Mujibar Rahman, who was inquiring about the whereabouts of the Officer-in-Charge (OC). When the inspector identified himself as a CID officer rather than a member of the local station staff, an individual accompanying Rahman began using abusive language.

Authorities allege that when the inspector protested the verbal abuse, Mujibar Rahman slapped him on the right cheek and issued death threats. The situation was brought under control by other police personnel present at the station, who immediately took Rahman into custody.

Following the arrest, several local Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders and members of labor organizations reportedly gathered at the police station late into the night in an attempt to secure his release.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Nurnabi confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect committed a serious offense by assaulting an officer on duty and making criminal threats. Nurnabi noted that the accused is scheduled to be presented before a court on Monday and remanded to jail custody.
