Prime Minister Tareque Rahman Calls for Law and Order Stability to Boost Investment and National Development

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday called for heightened public vigilance to maintain law and order, asserting that national progress depends on a stable environment. Speaking at a relief distribution event in the Baharchhara area of Banshkhali, Chittagong, the Prime Minister emphasized that peace is a mandatory prerequisite for attracting domestic and foreign investment.
Rahman stressed that investors require reliable infrastructure and secure supply chains to ensure raw materials can be imported and finished goods exported efficiently through ports. He warned that without industrial stability, the government cannot achieve its employment goals. Furthermore, the Prime Minister linked the maintenance of law and order to the quality of the nation’s educational system, urging citizens to remain wary of those who attempt to incite confusion or instability. He cautioned that such agitators prioritize their own agendas over the welfare of the public.
Highlighting the government’s welfare initiatives, Prime Minister Rahman announced that 4.1 million families will receive “family cards” in the 2026-2027 fiscal year. He noted that the project, which recently completed a pilot phase, is designed to empower women by enabling them to support their households, children’s education, and healthcare needs. In addition to the family card program, the government is also implementing a “farmer card” initiative.
During the visit, the Prime Minister also discussed strategic plans for utilizing coastal regions for economic development. He stated that the government is actively developing projects from Mirsharai to Matarbari to establish new manufacturing facilities and boost commercial opportunities. Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister visited Matarbari, accompanied by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salauddin Ahmed, and State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku.
The Prime Minister’s itinerary in Banshkhali included the handover of keys to new homes for 100 disadvantaged families. According to the Chittagong district administration, the disaster-resilient structures are equipped with two rooms and an attached restroom. Additionally, the Ministry of Social Welfare provided financial assistance to 15 individuals with disabilities, and relief materials were distributed to 200 families affected by recent flooding.
Following the events in Banshkhali, Prime Minister Rahman’s schedule included visits to the Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Uloom Babunagar Madrasa in Fatikchhari to meet with Allama Shah Muhibbullah Babunagari, and a prayer session at the grave of Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi at Al Jamiyatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari. The Prime Minister is also slated to attend a rehabilitation program for flood victims at Hathazari Government College and participate in an organizational meeting at the Radisson Blu Chittagong Bay View hotel before departing for Dhaka from Shah Amanat International Airport on Sunday night.
