Jahangirnagar University Professor reports theft of belongings on Dhaka Metro Rail

Jahangirnagar University professor Sayeed Ferdous reported the theft of his personal belongings while traveling on Dhaka’s Metro Rail on Saturday, prompting an official police investigation. The anthropology professor discovered the theft upon disembarking at the Karwan Bazar station around 1:00 p.m.

According to the general diary (GD) filed with the Tejgaon police, the missing items include a Google Pixel 8 smartphone, a national identity card, multiple bank cards from BRAC Bank and Agrani Bank, two Metro Rail transit passes, and a residential access card. The professor noted that the phone, along with its associated SIM card, was stored inside a smaller bag contained within a larger carry-on.

Professor Ferdous stated that he boarded the train at the Uttara Center station and did not notice anything amiss until he stepped onto the platform at Karwan Bazar. He discovered that the zipper of his bag had been opened and the smaller pouch containing his valuables was missing. He believes the theft occurred while he was inside the transit carriage.

Tejgaon Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Sabbir Mohammad Selim confirmed that the department has registered the complaint and has initiated efforts to recover the stolen property and track the missing device.
