Abdul Jabbar’s historic Balikhela and Baisakhi fair of Chittagong is starting next Friday. Volleyball will be next Saturday. This is the 117th season of Jabbar Balikhela. As the SSC exam is on April 26, the fair has been asked to end early on that day. On the occasion of the fair, security measures have been taken by the police including setting up a watch tower.

This information was given in a press conference at Chittagong City Corporation Public Library auditorium in Laldighi area of ​​the city on Wednesday. Shaukat Anwar Badal, general secretary of the organizing committee and grandson of Abdul Jabbar Saudagar, highlighted various aspects of Balikhela in the press conference. The main sponsor of the fair and Bali game is mobile phone operator Banglalink.

Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Shahadat Hossain inaugurated the mural containing Balikhela’s portrait at Laldighi Square after the press conference. At that time, the square was named ‘Jabbar Chatwar’ after Abdul Jabbar, the promoter of Jabbar volleyball.

In a press conference, City Mayor Shahadat Hussain told reporters that the mural symbolizes the struggle tradition of Bir Chattla and the spirit of getting justice in court. This mural was built from the idea that the history of Chittagong volleyball should be told to the next generation.

Under the chairmanship of Hafizur Rahman, president of Abdul Jabbar Balikhela and Baisakhi Mela organizing committee and committee member Ali Hasan Raju, Chasik acting chief executive officer Mohammad Ashraful Amin, chief engineer Anisur Rahman, organizing committee members Khorshed Anwar, Akhtar Anwar, Jahangir Alam, Md. Abdul Jabbar Saudagar of the local Badarpati area introduced wrestling in Laldighi field in 1909 to organize the youth of the area in the anti-British movement. That wrestling eventually came to be known as ‘Balikhela’. This volleyball game is held every year on 12 Baishakh in Laldighi field.
