Speakers at a seminar held at the National Museum in Dhaka on Monday called for broader efforts to introduce the pioneering work of modern sculptor Novera Ahmed to the younger generation. The event, titled “Novera Ahmed: Nibhrite Oboyob,” aimed to highlight the artist’s profound contributions to sculpture and her unique artistic philosophy.

Cultural Affairs Secretary Kaniz Fatema, who attended as the chief guest, emphasized the importance of embedding Ahmed’s artistic vision into the national discourse. She suggested that educational institutions should actively involve students in similar programs to foster a deeper appreciation for modern sculptural art and ensure that Ahmed’s legacy remains a vibrant part of the country’s cultural identity.

Researcher Saiful Islam presented the keynote paper, detailing the trajectory of Ahmed’s creative journey. His presentation contextualized the artist’s role within the modern art movement in Bangladesh and examined her standing in the international art community. He underscored how her work served as a foundational influence that helped shape the evolution of contemporary art in the region.

Expanding on the technical and historical significance of the artist’s career, researcher Shikwa Nazneen analyzed the aesthetic depth and enduring relevance of Ahmed’s sculptures. During the discussion, she also advocated for the Bangladesh National Museum to undertake a global celebration of the artist’s upcoming birth centenary, aiming to solidify her reputation on the world stage.

The seminar, chaired by Bangladesh National Museum Director General Tanjim Wahab, featured opening remarks from Mohammad Monirul Haque, Keeper of the Museum’s History and Classical Art Department. The event served as a platform to reaffirm Ahmed’s status as a visionary figure whose influence continues to resonate within the aesthetic and historical framework of Bangladeshi art.
