Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance and Planning, said, “Although various infrastructures were built in the name of development in the past, the real public welfare was not ensured. There was a lack of long-term planning in education, health and employment sectors.

Rashed Al Mahmud said this in the speech of the chief guest at the seminar titled ‘Problems, Possibilities and Actions in Improving Sustainable Living Quality of Coastal People’ in the hall of Rural Development Academy of Kotalipara Upazila of Gopalganj on Friday afternoon.

Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir said, “There is no doctor in the health center. There is an ambulance; But there is no driver. There are appliances; But there are no people to manage them. We want people to get employment, ensure good health and empower women. The development of women is an important indicator of the overall development of a country. Referring to the violence and torture against women and minority communities in the past, he said, here no one is a minority, everyone has equal rights.

This adviser to the Prime Minister also said, ‘The main goal of the election manifesto of the new government is to reform the state system, establish the rule of law, non-discriminatory social development and build sustainable state capacity. We want a state where the government is accountable to the people and the rights of citizens are guaranteed.

In the seminar under the chairmanship of Abdullah Al Mamun, Director General of Rural Development Academy, the member of parliament of Gopalganj-1 seat, among others. Selimuzzaman Salim, Member of Parliament of Gopalganj-3 Constituency SM Jilani, Member of Parliament of Gopalganj-2 Constituency KM Babar, Deputy Commissioner Md. The seminar emphasized on improving the quality of life in coastal areas, creating employment, expanding health care and developing infrastructure. Nimai Kumar Roy, a farmer of Dakop Upazila in Khulna highlighted the sufferings of people in the coastal areas and said that the people living on the coast have to face many challenges due to attacks by forest bandits, underdeveloped communication system and limitations of healthcare. He demanded to identify the problems in sustainable development and take effective initiatives.
