Information Minister calls on Chartered Accountants to be ready to face the challenges of modern technology

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan has urged the budding Chartered Accountants (CAs) to be ready to adapt to the rapid changes in modern technology and face the challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI). 

He made this call while addressing the chief guest at the 22nd convocation ceremony of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB) at Intercontinental Hotel in the capital on Saturday (April 11) morning. 

Zahir Uddin Swapan said, We are now living in the age of Internet, where the best development of communication science has taken place. The modern corporate system is now almost entirely technology dependent. Advances in technologies such as artificial intelligence and data analytics are revolutionizing the accounting profession. Embrace this challenge with courage and move forward.

He said, if only limited to the academic knowledge obtained from the institute, the fullness of merit will not come. You have to be constantly aware and vigilant about the new context created by the combination of technologies.

Emphasizing on professional integrity, the minister said, the basic foundation of the accounting profession is people’s trust. The role of CAs is immense in accelerating sustainable economic growth by ensuring financial transparency and strengthening good governance.

He described Chartered Accountants (CAs) as an integral part or ‘organic intellectual’ of modern society and capitalism. He said that accounting is not only the science of calculating numbers, but it is one of the main pillars of modern democratic civilization and financial system.

The chairman of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC) said in the speech of the special guest. Md. Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan highlighted the need for transparent accounting management in the development of the country.

ICAB President NK A Mobin congratulated the FCA fresh chartered accountants and said that ICAB has been ensuring international standard education since its inception. He urged the new professionals to maintain the highest standards of ethics and integrity.

In this convocation, certificates were awarded to those who passed the CA examination from November-December 2022 to November-December 2025.

Council members of ICAB, senior officials and family members of the fresh graduates were present on the occasion.
