India tour ‘fruitful’: Humayun Kabir

Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir said the visit to India has been “fruitful”. He said, “If the relationship between the two countries can be taken in a positive direction, then we will be able to make some good progress.” In that respect it is a fruitful visit. We had a meeting there with India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, had talks with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Both meetings are positive.

Humayun Kabir told reporters after meeting with Prime Minister Tariq Rahman at the Secretariat on Monday morning. He said, ‘Hopefully, next week we will see some positive aspects of the meeting. We have given importance that the medical visas should be introduced soon. They also took things positively.

Earlier, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir met the Prime Minister at the Secretariat at 11:30 am. They informed the Prime Minister about their recent visit to India.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman visited India on April 7 at the invitation of Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar. He was accompanied by Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir.

In response to a question, Humayun Kabir said, “In the meeting, there was a discussion about bringing Sheikh Hasina back to the country.” The matter will always be discussed. Because the people of Bangladesh are interested in it.

Humayun Kabir said, “A dictator and a terrorist is staying as an international terrorist on Indian soil.” This terrorist killed one and a half thousand people of Bangladesh and fled to India. We have said this in the discussion, his place will not be in Bangladesh.

Humayun Kabir said, “We have said that Sheikh Hasina uses Indian soil so that she cannot create any kind of chaos. We have even insisted on bringing him back and bringing him to justice. Everything will be done through a transparent judicial process.

In response to another question, Humayun Kabir said, “Nothing has been finalized yet about the Prime Minister’s first foreign visit.” The Prime Minister wants to project his foreign policy through a foreign policy framework for the SAARC countries, or we want, so that regional assistance can be strengthened through this framework. Naturally there may be a visit to India within this region, but nothing is final yet, maybe, it is under consideration.

Humayun Kabir said that the killing of martyr Sharif Osman bin Hadi in July was also discussed and the killers were caught there. It is possible to bring the killers back to the country through legal process.

Regarding the development of relations between the two countries, Humayun Kabir said, “We have said in the discussion that in order to strengthen the friendly relations, we have to progress equally from both sides. All cannot be discussed in one day. If the mindset of both countries is right, then anything positive can be done.

Humayun Kabir said, ‘There are some challenges in the development of relations with India. When the escaped terrorist Sheikh Hasina is there, there will be challenges. Keeping in front of this challenge, how we will protect the mutual interests of the two countries and advance other works, those issues have come up for discussion.

When asked whether there was any discussion to solve the energy crisis, the foreign adviser to the Prime Minister said, “We have received some of their assistance in the fuel sector, it is in the pipeline, we have thanked India for it.” Where more cooperation is needed, we will get cooperation, they assured. There was no strong discussion on this issue.

Humayun Kabir said that the people did not have a mandate for the government led by Sheikh Hasina and said, “In the past, the people did not have a mandate for the Awami League government. People’s mandate is very important for the country. We formed a new government under the leadership of Prime Minister Tariq Rahman based on two-thirds of people’s votes. So our confidence is high. We can speak loudly, that is important.
